Where this comes from
IndexGG does not host a single file. Every mod, version and image below is served by the people who made it, and this page says who they are.
Thunderstore
Mods, versions, download counts and the dependency graph for 71 games. The single largest source here.
Access: Public API, no key, no registration.
Credit: Mod pages link back to the package on Thunderstore, and every icon is served from their CDN rather than copied. The categories, ratings and deprecation flags on those pages are the ones their authors set.
Modrinth
Minecraft mods, plugins, modpacks, resource packs, shaders and data packs.
Access: Public API, no key. Rate limited, which this site respects.
Credit: Every project links to its Modrinth page; icons load from Modrinth's CDN.
SMAPI compatibility list
Stardew Valley mods, and the update each one broke in. Maintained in the open by the community.
Access: A file in a public repository. No key, no rate limit.
Credit: Maintained by Pathoschild and contributors, and this site would have no Stardew data without it.
CurseForge
Mods, modpacks and their full file history, with checksums.
Access: Their published API, under our own approved access.
Credit: Every download points at the author's own file page there. Where an author has opted out of third-party distribution, the direct link is absent and the page links to theirs instead.
GameBanana
Skins, models, maps and sound for games with no code-mod loader, across 4,684 titles.
Access: Their public API, no key.
Credit: Screenshots and icons are served from their CDN. Their listing publishes views rather than downloads, and this site does not present one as the other.
Factorio mod portal
Every Factorio mod, with the game version its author declared in info.json.
Access: The official portal API, no key.
Credit: The only source that publishes per-release game compatibility as a field rather than as prose.
SpaceDock
Kerbal Space Program and four sibling games, with each mod's whole release history.
Access: Their public API, no key.
Credit: Downloads link to SpaceDock, which is where the authors publish.
Steam Workshop
The most-subscribed items for 43 games, with their preview art and tags.
Access: Valve's published API.
Credit: A Workshop item has no download link: you subscribe in Steam and the client fetches it. Pages link to the item instead of showing a button that could not work.
mod.io
Mods for several hundred titles, including the ones with in-game browsers.
Access: Their published API.
Credit: Their download URLs are signed and expire within the day, so none are stored. Pages link to each mod's own profile.
Steam
Game metadata, cover art, live player counts, build ids used as a version spine, and each publisher's own announcements.
Access: Store API, store search, SteamCMD, the news endpoint and the image CDN. No key for any of them.
Credit: All artwork is hotlinked from Valve's own CDN. Announcements show the publisher's own opening lines and link to their post; the rest stays on Steam. Game names and art are the publishers'.
Mojang
The Minecraft version manifest: every release and snapshot, with its Java requirement.
Access: Public manifest, no key.
Credit: Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Studios. This site is not affiliated with them.
PaperMC, Purpur, Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge, Forge
Server builds and loader releases, straight from each project's own API.
Access: Public APIs, no keys.
Credit: Downloads always point at each project's own host. Nothing is mirrored.
MCJars
Build histories for the server jars that have no API of their own.
Access: Public API, no key. Rate limited, and this site crawls it slowly on purpose.
Credit: Where MCJars serves a mirrored jar rather than the publisher's own, pages say so.
Adoptium
Eclipse Temurin Java builds, with checksums.
Access: Public API, no key.
Credit: Java runtimes are linked to Adoptium's own downloads.
How images work here
Every icon and every piece of cover art is loaded directly from the publisher’s own server: Thunderstore’s CDN, Modrinth’s, Valve’s. Nothing is copied onto this site, which is both how those hosts intend their art to be used and the reason a mod’s icon updates here the moment its author changes it.
Browsing here does not tell those hosts which page you are on: every image is requested with no referrer.
Game names, logos and artwork belong to their publishers. IndexGG is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
Sources we deliberately do not use
Nexus Mods
The largest mod host for Skyrim, Fallout and Cyberpunk, and the biggest gap in this index. Their terms forbid fetching in bulk to show elsewhere, which is exactly what this site would be doing. That is a decision about their rules rather than about access, and it does not change.
