1986年にデビューした近郊型の交直流車。451・475系などの急行型電車から電装品や台車などを流用し、車体のみ新製された。長らく北陸本線の金沢富山地区で活躍したが、JR西日本からは2020年に引退。あいの風とやま鉄道で活躍している。
