9000系をベースに地下鉄日比谷線用乗り入れ車両として1988年に登場。現在東急では池上線と多摩川線で活躍がみられるほか、一部車両は地方私鉄に譲渡され活躍中。 現在はかつて目蒲線・池上線を走っていたカラーリングを復刻した「気になる電車」にラッピングされている1017Fの方向幕・菱形パンタ時代です。行先は「蒲田」としています。
