2015年に登場したJR西日本の地方線区向け近郊型車両。 更新時期を迎えた国鉄型車両を置き換えるために登場した。 2023年に登場した岡山・備後エリア向けの車両は「Urara」の愛称が付く。 ラッシュ時の混雑対策のため、ドア付近の座席配置が変更されているのが特徴。
