御殿場線・小田急小田原線を直通し、沼津～新宿間を結ぶ特急「あさぎり」としてデビュー。 小田急20000形RSE車と基本仕様は統一されているが、新幹線100系に近いデザインが採用されている。 2012年3月に「あさぎり」から撤退。撤退後は波動用として運用され、2014年11月に富士急行へ譲渡。 現在は富士急8500系「富士山ビュー特急」として活躍中。
