架空历史背景——孙中山领导的北伐由于张作霖向日本妥协而中断，1937年，日军由东北向南进犯，与此同时，上海也处于日军重点进攻区域。国民党和中共领导人一致决定保留实力，在上海象征性抵抗三个月后有序撤离至南京，但日军的进击速度超出了国军的想象，江阴要塞失陷，国共高层随即决定将南京设为不设防城市，军队和工厂撤往西南大后方准备持久作战。1937年中，日军兵不血刃占领南京，随机留在城中未及时撤出的百姓展开屠杀。最后日军在武汉遭到重创，不得不放缓侵略步伐。1938年，经历了一年多的休整和补充，国军的作战能力已经可以反攻，国共领导随即下令向南京进发，夺回这座千年古城。 夺回南京的第一战，便是淳化......
