本舰原型USS Newark(C-1)目前由于火炮碰撞体积的问题部分火炮在某些距离上无法击发，如果要模拟实战可以将挡板暂时删除，是可以正常开火的。这个问题在8寸主炮上尤其严重，测试只有在1.4km左右可以射击，可以将4门8寸主炮替换成6寸速射炮，这本来也是甲午后全面速射炮改造的方案。
