伊豆级二号舰朝日号1943年后的改造形态，基本移除了所有的对海副炮 朝日号作为伊豆级2号舰从出生开始就装备了460主炮与一号舰区分开来，460/50主炮的重量使军部开始重新思考她的定位，最后她被定位成决战旗舰，并抛弃了鱼雷，同时副炮也被减少到了每侧4门 在1942年姐姐伊豆在东南亚执行任务时遭到轰炸机轰炸沉没后，朝日被紧急召回本土进行了改造
