外形仿照ijn的巡潜乙型，前向设有六门鱼雷发射管，艇上搭载有两架零观，而历史上真实的巡潜乙只能搭载一架零式小侦 巡潜乙型潜艇，是以对美战略“渐减邀击作战”计划而建造的本级舰，在作战中主要任务是支援作为潜水战队旗舰的甲型潜艇。为提高对敌搜索能力，特意设计为可以搭载1架水上侦察机。 1940年9月30日，第一艘乙型潜艇伊15正式完工，其标准排水量略超过丙I型，达到2198吨。接着第二年有6艘乙型潜艇完工，42年有10艘完工，43年有3艘完工。前后合计20艘。其后，还曾经在乙型的基础上又发展出乙改I型和乙改II型，前者建造6艘，后者建造3艘。总计在日本海军中乙型潜艇一共建造了29艘。 乙型潜艇...
