1993年10月，新生的俄罗斯联邦爆发宪政危机，总统叶利钦控制着军方，试图依仗军事实力成为“超级总统”，登上大权独揽的独裁宝座。与此同时，俄罗斯人民代表大会反对叶利钦的这一举动，宪政理念的议会与独裁者叶利钦多次发生冲突，最终演变为武装起义，莫斯科市仍在总统的掌控下，但议会派也已在莫斯科周边的卫星城筑牢根基。夺取莫斯科州控制权乃至全国政权的斗争已经展开。
