1777年，一群来自广东嘉应州的客家矿工联合当地华人公司，建立了兰芳。 建国后，兰芳与荷兰东印度公司连年交战。荷兰人想吞并婆罗洲，兰芳寸土不让。矿工、农民、渔民组成民兵，在山林与河口间与荷兰远征军周旋数十年。最终，荷兰人被逐出婆罗洲腹地。兰芳顺势南下，统一南洋十三州。从马来亚到爪哇，从苏门答腊到婆罗洲，从苏拉威西到摩鹿加，再到西新几内亚，十三州尽归兰芳，马六甲海峡成为内海。 但胜利的代价极为惨重。国库空虚，青壮年战死，田园荒芜，矿山停摆，城镇残破。 1836年，道光十六年，兰芳立国已近一甲子。战事稍歇，百废待兴。经济未兴，铁路未通，工厂未立。西班牙人仍在菲律宾虎视眈眈。英国人的炮舰游弋在...
