• DDM&G - Mesa 1928Introducing my first released layout! A proper home for the DM&G rolling stock fleet--the Mesa Yards in the spring of 1928. Hidden in the shadows of Grand Mesa, the largest flattop mountain in the world, Mesa’s still the same dirt-road, wooden-cabin sort of town it was when the railroad arrived i...5.8k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
• MMilwaukee Road H10-44s - Early SchemeThe staple locomotive of the Beer Line! Introduced in 1944, the H-10-44 was Fairbanks-Morse's first locomotive. Known mostly for agricultural and maritime equipment, F-M equipped it with an opposed-piston engine primarily used on submarines. Twenty-three were built for the Milwaukee Road, which k...3.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GG&D No. 8 "Sgt. Ennis"History Sgt. Ennis was John's second locomotive after 0-4-0 no. 9. Built in 1947 from a Mantua "Belle of the Eighties" kit, this engine starred in much of John's early work on the first GD. On the later versions, the old soldier had been bumped down to excursion service, but the engine and its ol...3.8k downloadsupdated 11 mo ago
• AAlger PassTowering mountains...pine trees as far as the eye can see...the Empire Builder in Big Sky Blue...it can only be the Cascades! High up in the mountains of western Washington, trains face the full brunt of winter, their journeys made a little easier by the mighty efforts of the rotary plows that pa...3.7k downloadsupdated 22 mo ago
• 00-6-0 Saddle TanksBehind every great man is a great woman, behind every great general is a great army, and behind every great hundred-car freight train or stainless-steel streamliner is the great little saddle tank that got it all ready. This pack salutes those modest engines with a pair that can stand in for the...3.7k downloadsupdated 19 mo ago
• GG&D Steam PackWhile the Gorre & Daphetid's husky freight engines were its signature, the railroad was home to steamers of every shape and size. CygnusOX's excellent USRA steamers were the perfect start to bring some of the GD's colorful roster to Rolling Line! The Engines No. 15, built from parts in the GD sho...3.4k downloadsupdated 11 mo ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 223As the DM&G expanded operations in the 1920s, the need arose for a heavy-duty, mixed-traffic locomotive. Not only did it have to be powerful enough for coal and ore drags through the mountains, it had to have a lower-than-usual center of gravity to safely handle some of the sharp curves on the br...3.3k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison Boxcar (Early)Typical of its era, wood boxcars like this carried any and all freight shipped on the DM&G. These boxcars also carried the earliest version of the DM&G's "Mountain" logo, which would be revised and updated several times into the 1970s.3.3k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Northern No. 1355Based on Great Northern No. 1355, built as a 4-6-0 in 1909, rebuilt as a 4-6-2 in 1924, and currently displayed at the Milwaukee Road Shops Historic District in Sioux City, Iowa. I've got a few more Pacific Northwest liveries (mostly Great Northern and Northern Pacific) in the pipeline, so watch...3.3k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 19The Denver, Mesa & Gunnison Railroad is one of the more obscure railroads of the Western US. Founded in 1898, it initially ran between Grand Junction and Mesa, Colorado as a mining road. By 1910, it had reached Denver to the east and Gunnison to the southeast, pitting itself in a rivalry with the...3.3k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GG&D Old Time CoachesOn the Gorre & Daphetid, "old" doesn't mean "obsolete." Take these antique wood passenger cars; long after they were supplanted by heavyweights and streamliners, they could still be found on excursion service behind the GD's stately 4-4-0, Sgt. Ennis.3.2k downloadsupdated 23 mo ago
• DDM&G Pullman (Early)Though they started out with older wood passenger cars, the Denver, Mesa & Gunnison was quick to replace them with steel heavyweights like this. Beginning in 1900, the branding "Rocky Air Line" was a mainstay of the DM&G's passenger services--"air line" was a popular term at the time for a flat,...3.2k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDM&G Ka 223 TenderThe tenders for the DM&G's K class, unlike the engines themselves, changed very little throughout their service life. They were painted with both the "Rocky Air Line" passenger lettering and the "King of the Rockies" freight logo to reflect the engines' mixed-traffic versatility.3.2k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDM&G No. 19 TenderDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 19 was delivered as a wood burner with a conventional tender, but after a wreck in 1906, it was rebuilt for coal firing and given this Vanderbilt tender. "Vandy" tenders became a staple of the DM&G until the introduction of Ka-class engines in the early 1930s.3.2k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison Ore HopperFrom the start, the DM&G's bread and butter was mining. Dozens of "jimmy" hoppers like this rolled from the mines around Grand Junction to customers along the main line, loaded with just about anything that came out of the ground in Colorado: coal, copper, silver claims the Rio Grande hadn't stak...3.1k downloadsupdated 6 y ago

• GGorre & Daphetid No. 43One of the first liveries we made for the GD, way back in 2021, out at last! No. 43 is one of only a few surviving original GD locomotives, alongside the famous 4-10-0 No. 34, 4-4-0 No. 8, and 0-4-0 No. 10. John Allen would take it along when visiting other layouts, and like No. 34, it was likely...3.0k downloadsupdated 23 mo ago

• MMetropolitan Ry. No. 72No. 72 here is a loose representation of the Metropolitan Railway class D, a set of six 2-4-0T's built by Sharp, Stewart & Co. in 1894-95. Numbered 71-76, they were used between Aylesbury, Verney Junction, and Baker Street until the 1920s, when they were withdrawn and scrapped. The Metropolitan R...3.0k downloadsupdated 5 y ago

• DDM&G Pullman (Prewar)In 1916, the DM&G began repainting their passenger cars into a more modern olive green, out of the red that had been used since the railroad's founding. It looked good on its own and went especially well with the passenger locomotive livery rolled out in 1923.3.0k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGorre & Daphetid BoxcarA man emerges from under a rock. He stretches, strokes a long scraggly beard he doesn't remember growing, his bleary eyes squinting in a sunlight that is unfamiliar to him. He beats the dust from his battered bowler hat. This, after many forgotten years, is Dark Derby.. One of the first things I...3.0k downloadsupdated 2 y ago
• DDM&G Boxcar (Prewar)The DM&G began using steel-sheathed wood boxcars like this one in 1929, to replace their aging wooden fleet. A few those were even rebuilt into these, especially once the Depression hit and the DM&G put new car orders on hold.2.9k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGorre & Daphetid 43 TenderThe tender for Berkshire no. 43.2.9k downloadsupdated 23 mo ago
• DDM&G Postwar BoxcarOne of the first changes the DM&G made after the war was the two-tone gray "Mountain" scheme. It was first applied to boxcars like this in 1948 and became the road's signature passenger livery. Having boxcars in the livery made them decent express cars in a pinch. As electric traction became the...2.9k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 26In 1923, the DM&G introduced an elegant new scheme for its passenger locomotives. Harkening back to the first five engines on the line, these new engines wore white-and-purple pinstriping and dark green boiler jackets; only slight differences from the freight engines, but differences a trained ey...2.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDM&G Hopper (Prewar)As the ore jimmies of the 1890s began to show their age, the DM&G retired them in favor of larger, all-steel hoppers. This is a typical example, built in 1932 of a design the railroad had been ordering since 1926. Some of these would still be hard at work into the 1960s and '70s.2.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDM&G No. 26 TenderNo. 26's tender boasts distinctive Rocky Air Line lettering and, to separate it from the freight livery, a subtle purple accent on the striping and lettering. Repainted DM&G passenger engines could still be identified by the high-set "Denver, Mesa & Gunnison" lettering seen here, which stayed eve...2.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 22Beginning around 1909, the DM&G began taking new engines in a simple black livery, in stark contrast to the vivid red and gold of their first five. No. 22, a Baldwin engine from 1910, is typical of the time. It served as a versatile freight engine through the Depression and both world wars, endin...2.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Northern BerkshireFirst “real” livery I’ve done in a while, here’s the Great Northern Berkshire! Fun fact: the Great Northern never owned any Berkshires. The lettering and numbering instead match an S-2, a class of 4-8-4 Northern the railroad used from 1930 to 1958. One of these, No. 2481, held the dubious honor a...2.8k downloadsupdated 6 y ago

• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 165World War II ramped up traffic for just about every major American railroad, and the DM&G was no exception. And like many railroads, it was soon found that their engine fleet was struggling to keep up. Double-headers were the norm, and the new K-classes in particular were stretched thin as every...2.6k downloadsupdated 6 y ago

• NNorthern Pacific PullmanThe next piece in my Pacific Northwest series, a Northern Pacific Pullman coach. This is a livery I knew right off the bat I wanted to make in RL. That two-tone green always looked just...right. If there's interest I might make a couple of variants with unique details (different road numbers, lig...2.6k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Western 1st Class CoachAnother quick livery to try out the new NZR coach templates, in the Great Western's classic chocolate and cream scheme. Also check out the matching mail coach and third-class coach on my workshop!2.6k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
• DDM&G No. 165 TenderThe tenders for the DM&G's Big Boys were almost identical to the UP's "centipede" tenders. At first, they were painted with just the DM&G logo; the numbering was added in 1947 for easier identification.2.5k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Northern Berkshire TenderThe tender for my Great Northern Berkshire.2.5k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 1320For a relatively extensive railroad, the DM&G was curiously late to dieselize. The last of their steam fleet--the 160-class Big Boys--was retired in 1961, and apart from a smattering of diesel switchers, the DM&G was solidly electric. That changed in 1966 when the railroad ordered 25 of General E...2.5k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Western 3rd Class CoachThe third of a set of Great Western liveries I made to try out the new NZR coach templates. And make some non-US liveries, which I did a lot when I started playing Rolling Line but haven't in a while. Also check out my workshop for matching first-class and mail coaches!2.5k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
• NNorthern Pacific Observation CarA matching observation car to go with the Northern Pacific coach in my collection. It's lettered for the North Coast Limited, the NP's premier passenger train for exactly 71 years and one day--April 29, 1900 to April 30, 1971. The Limited connected Chicago and Seattle through Butte, Montana and H...2.5k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• SSNCF 242.A.1Possibly the peak of a distinguished career, SNCF 242.A.1 was the brainchild of Andre Chapelon, an acclaimed French engineer and locomotive designer. Applying an extensive knowledge of fluid- and thermodynamics, and a great deal of scientific rigor rarely seen in his field, Chapelon designed loco...2.4k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
• NNorthern Pacific FlyerIn the comments on my Great Northern Flyer awhile back, I mentioned I had a Northern Pacific livery in the works. Here it is! Not quite as colorful as the Great Northern, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I live in former NP territory, and I've actually been lucky enough to work with som...2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDM&G Hopper (Postwar)Starting in 1947, the DM&G began to paint their hoppers in this oxide red livery, which had been used on their boxcars since the railroad's beginnings.2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• NNorthern Pacific F7B (Freight Livery)The B unit for my Northern Pacific freight F7. If the "Main Street of the Northwest" lettering looks a little wonky, it's because I redrew it in Illustrator by hand. Credit where credit is due, I traced it from the texture for Microcosmologist's passenger livery here: Hope that's cool!2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• NNorthern Pacific F7 (Freight Livery)The "Pine Tree" freight livery the Northern Pacific used for their F-series diesels from the 1950s on. A 1956-built F9 wearing this livery, No. 7012A, is preserved at the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad. Surprisingly, the trickiest part to get right was the lightning bolts in the "Radio Equipped" t...2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 632While hampered slightly by a little thing called the Great Depression, the DM&G's electrification efforts were generally successful, especially when coal shortages threatened their steam fleet. Arguably, those first electric engines were what carried the railroad through the Depression, as strugg...2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• DDenver, Mesa & Gunnison No. 445One year after the DM&G's V8s were repainted, the 400-class "side-rods" got their turn. This attractive oxide red scheme was designed for versatility: it matched the oxide-painted freight cars and, if need be, the "Mountain Gray" passenger equipment. In use into the 1970s, this was one of the lon...2.4k downloadsupdated 6 y ago
• GGreat Northern No. 51A simple Great Northern livery for the center-cab switcher, seeing how it looks close enough to a General Electric 44-ton and my Pacific Northwest-themed layout-in-progress needed one. This was my first diesel livery, and the old one was surprisingly tricky one to get right; mostly just Photoshop...2.4k downloadsupdated 5 y ago
