2014年3月から常磐線で活躍していた651系が高崎線系統の特急列車に転用されました。 走行範囲が直流区間のみとなるため交流機器の撤去等が行われ1000番台となりました。 しかし2023年3月をもってE257系に交代し、引退しました。
